Channel 4 and Untold Studios present ‘My Dad: Living in Ukraine's War Zone’

Channel 4 has just released ‘My Dad: Living in Ukraine's War Zone’. This emotive and eye-opening documentary, developed and produced by Untold Studios, tells the story of a family torn apart by the war in Ukraine. 

Audiences are introduced to Kirill, a Ukrainian student studying Neuroscience at the University of Bristol. Kirill is seen speaking on FaceTime with their father directly from the war zone in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Kirill’s older brother Daniel is on route to the Poland/Ukraine border to deliver supplies and volunteer at a refugee camp there. As young Ukrainians living in the UK, Kirill and Daniel are doing everything in their power to help their country in the fight against Russia. 

Mixing VHS footage from Kirill and Daniel’s childhood, self-shot material, third party content, and interview footage, the documentary goes beyond the headlines and takes an intimate look at how the war is continuing to deeply affect ordinary people. 

 

This is the first in a series of films for Channel 4 which present young people who have a parent or family member who has done or is doing something unconventional, illegal, underground or shocking to hear how it impacts their life.

My Dad: Living in Ukraine's War Zone will be published on Channel 4’s YouTube, with shorter versions published on Channel 4’s Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat.

Untold Studios’ creative director Iona Goulder explains: "Although stories like the ones we feature in this series are often covered in mainstream media, it’s rare to hear them told from a Gen Z point of view. Young people are the crux of every film and we’re incredibly grateful to people like Kirill who shared their personal story with us to give an alternative perspective on important topics."
