Jim is well known for his attention to detail, distinctive visual style and the importance of sound within his work. He began his career as an editor, first in music videos, then features and has a long list of credits, including the Elysian Fields sequences in Gladiator and the title sequence for Hannibal. He broke into commercials soon after and in 2001 was awarded a D&AD Pencil for Outstanding Editing on the Adidas campaign.
On Sir Ridley Scott’s suggestion, Jim started directing and soon won the BBC New Directors Award. Jim’s hard hitting spot for Motor Neurone Disease Association best showcases his position as a visual effects director with strong performance and great visual style. It won a Yellow Pencil at the D&AD awards, Best Crafted Commercial and Best Sound Direction at the British Television Advertising Craft Awards. It combines intimate performance with powerful visuals, seamless effects and flawless editing.
Recently Jim directed his first feature called “Sword of Vengeance” starring Annabell Wallis and Ed Skrein. Following that he was brought onboard by Ridley Scott to work on the new television series Taboo, starring Tom Hardy as a Creative Consultant on the post production to help deliver the visuals, editing, performances and sound in its very own stylistic world.
Working on the first four episodes he was tasked with creating the blueprint for the series that would stand it apart form the norm of ‘period’ drama.
Jim is currently in development on another television series but also available for commercials.
