Copywriter at C14 (DDB) Spain on using communication as a tool of change for good

At DDB, we have a simple belief. That Unexpected Works. It means that the best idea is the one you never saw coming. The thing that catches you so off guard that you can‘t look away. And the only path to genuinely unexpected works is through creativity.

And in order to create awesome works, you need awesome people. Because you can’t make the unexpected if you only work with the usual suspects. In this Unexpected Intros series, we take a peek behind the curtain at some of the diverse thinkers that make up our network and validate Bill Bernbach’s notion that an idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.

1. Name, Title, Office

Daniel Fàbregas Gella, copywriter, C14 (DDB) Spain.

2. Introduce yourself in three emojis.

🐎😉🔥

3. What was your very first job?

Bracelet maker at the beach.

4. How did you wind up in advertising?

I signed up for the 'fine arts' career in UB (Barcelona), but I was never told I had to do an entry test, so never got in :(. I took that as a signal, and I entered a communications career at Blanquerna (URL) with my best friend. After four intense years, entering student advertising festivals, we got out of school as a creative duo.

5. Piece of creative that inspires you?

Oof, hahaha definitely this one

6. What are you currently reading, watching, and listening to?

I love reading books with pictures. Unless the story is so good, I don’t need them. Like Robinson Crusoe,  Sandokán, Treasure Island, and other pirate legends.  But most of the time my dyslexia gets lost in too many words, and I prefer to read easy and light books about design, photography or art, with less to read and more to see. Right now I am going through a book called “Simplísimo libro de cocina light” that includes a lot of recipes with mushrooms, which I love to forage for the woods.

My mum is crazy about cinema. So, since very little, I’ve learned to sit down quietly and watch movies. All genres, all times. With cinema I am 100,000 times more open than reading books. So, you have the same chances to find me watching 'Pocahontas', than 'American History X', or 'Casablanca'. All I ask for is good stories.

7. What’s a goal/hope/dream of yours?

My goal is to use communication as a tool of change for good. Not just for selling more, but for a greater purpose. Like creating conversations about biodiversity.
