Start the Festive Season With Starbucks Joyful Red Cups Animation

Andy Martin has directed a film celebrating the launch of Starbucks’ iconic festive Red Cups, called ‘The Season Starts With Red Cups’. Collaborating with illustrator Alice Wietzel, the traditionally animated 2D spot follows ordinary people as they ‘carry the merry’, sharing the festive spirit as they drink their seasonal favourites. Reflecting the skill that goes into making the drinks, the spot is filled with crafty details; festive ribbons, patterns and textures create an instantly recognisable ‘Starbucks’ world in animation. Set to the song ‘Boxes’ by Tasha Robertson, the spot flows from one vignette to the next seeing everyday people enjoying their drinks and seamlessly transitioning to the next person with a mix of animated transitions and characters appearing in the background of one shot being brought to the foreground.  

Of the spot, Andy Martin says: “It was a real pleasure to work on this spot for Starbucks’ Red Cups return. We aimed to show a modern city scene filled with the warm glow of festive hot drinks.  

Working with Alice’s illustrations was a dream. Her eye for detail is amazing in the beautifully crafted world she creates. It was a joy to bring them to life.”
