Caviar's director contributes to the The Barbican's Life Rewired shorts
Ollie Wolf’s thought provoking new short film ‘The Last Forever Woman’ produced by Romy Waller has just been released as part of The Barbican’s Life Rewired Shorts. The film will be part a series of short films commissioned by The Barbican and the British Council as part of their season exploring what it means to be human when technology is changing everything.

‘The Last Forever Woman’ explores the theme of ageing populations and the concept of immortality within a global culture that seems transfixed by the desire to live forever. Yes, it’s a tempting idea, but how does it play out in practice and at what cost? After two centuries of life, love and loss, our Heroine Alma (played by a captivating Beatrice Comins) is struggling to go on and so looks to take a final journey to rejoin her deceased wife, Maya.

Says Waller “As a producer, I am constantly looking to explore and uncover new ideas with exciting writers and directorial talent. ‘The Last Forever Woman’ gave me exactly that; the concept of the film gave great scope for thought and collaboration. Working alongside a female lead, and female co-writer set the project apart from others.”

It’s a beautiful story & Wolf’s hope is that Alma’s voice can offer a personal point of view on ageing as we move into an era where the realities of immortality may lay just around the corner.

From idea to final film the director and his team only had eight weeks before its premiere. Says Wolf: “The writing process was the hardest part given the delicate subject matter. Seventeen drafts later myself and writing partner Alexandria Macleod hope we have found a strong way through the creative fog to tell an engaging and emotive story.”

Co-writer Macleod say’s “The writing and making of this film made us realise how often women “past a certain age” are underrepresented in film, TV and cinema or are side-lined into one dimensional, secondary characters. So I’m proud to be part of a project that attempts to show a different narrative.”
