Rob from A-MNEMONIC Music shares his May Playlist

Hey hey music lovers! Your favourite playlist curator is back in the house with some fresh tracks for your ears.

Can you believe it? It feels like just yesterday we were all yelling "Happy New Year!" and now we're nearly halfway through 2024. May has been a wild ride, capped off with us rubbing shoulders with legends like Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, and Lana Del Rey at the Ivor Novello Awards. Talk about an epic day!

As we gear up for the summer, the good old British weather decided to pull a fast one with clouds and rain. But hey, no worries! This month's playlist is all about chilled vibes to match the cool breeze.

Let's dive into some of my top picks for this month:

LyOsun ft. Sofiya Nzau - "Mwendwa We"

First up, we've got Kenyan artist LyOsun dropping a fresh single, "Mwendwa We," featuring the super talented Sofiya Nzau. This track is a gem in LyOsun’s collection, showing off their growth and versatility. Sofiya's and LyOsun's voices blend like magic, making this song a must-listen with its catchy beat and soulful lyrics. Perfect for a relaxed afternoon or a reflective evening.

Purple Disco Machine ft. Benjamin Ingrosso, Shenseea & Nile Rodgers - "Honey Boy"

Next, we've got a sizzling new single, "Honey Boy," from the Grammy-winning maestro Purple Disco Machine. This track is a powerhouse collaboration with Swedish hitmaker Benjamin Ingrosso, Jamaican rising star Shenseea, and the legendary Nile Rodgers. It's a funky disco-pop anthem that's guaranteed to get you moving. Benjamin's melody came to him after a night out, and the rest is disco history with Purple Disco Machine, Shenseea, and Nile Rodgers bringing it all together. This one's already a live showstopper!

Garbage - "Song to the Siren"

Rounding off our list is a haunting cover of Tim Buckley’s "Song to the Siren" by Garbage, released as part of their new EP for Record Store Day 2024. Inspired more by This Mortal Coil’s famous cover than Buckley's originals, Garbage adds their unique touch. The band’s full participation, a subtle shuffling drumbeat, elaborate backing vocals, and a dramatic instrumental interlude make this cover stand out. It's a beautiful, intricate take on a timeless classic.

That wraps it up for this month! Enjoy the start of your summer, keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine, and maybe do a little sun dance. Catch you next month with more musical goodness!
