Caviar's Neal Brennan helms an extension of the video game's 'Greatest Play Ever Called' campaign
Following its successful launch with 'The Greatest Play Ever Called', Madden NFL 19 is continuing the story of Will’s legend into the holiday season with its second campaign installment, 'You're Next'.
Featuring a star-studded cast including SNL's Chris Redd, rappers Nicki Minaj & Quavo, NFL wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and the internet's own Lil Dicky - all of whom also appeared in the first film - the new spot tells the story of two gamers fantasizing about how legendary their own lives would be if they themselves made the greatest call ever.
The film, intended to build on the previously established narrative, also serves as a standalone piece of content for unfamiliar viewers. It was created by Johannes Leonardo and directed by Caviar's Neal Brennan.
The holidays are a critical sales period for the video game industry, so EA Sports and Johannes Leonardo aimed to re-energise interest months after the title's original release date and tap into what really drives gamers: the need to be the best, and be recognised for it.
While 'You're Next' is designed to deliver entertainment and comedic value, it also reinforces the campaign strategy: Madden greatness isn't just about the outcome, but everything it takes to make the call.
The new film launched online on November 15, and first aired via broadcast November 18.
