Homespun's Paul O'Reilly cuts short film about the Atlanta based hip hop collective
Homespun’s Paul O’Reilly has recently completed cutting Awful Days, a documentary about the Atlanta based hip hop collective, Awful Records.

Directed by Joe Alexander and produced by Boiler Room it looks at the Awful lot through footage captured during Boiler Room’s time spent in Atlanta with the label.

Atlanta has become a melting pot for some of rap’s most bizarre, unusual and talented MC’s and that’s why Boiler Room TV went there to Atlanta to meet the team for a new documentary.

The gritty film chronicles the rise of Awful Records with a focus on each member of the crew and gives viewers an insight into what Boiler Room call the “bizarre, fascinating culture shock” of the new Atlanta.

The in-depth documentary about the creative collective was a project that Paul was very keen to be involved in: “I’ve worked with Joe before, we cut the David Zowie House Every Weekend music video," says Paul.  “For Awful Days Joe shot the guys for 13 days and there were over 70 hours of rushes, so the biggest challenge was the amount of footage.  All 17 of them were interviewed thoroughly so it was initially daunting and took three months to cut but I’m really happy with how it turned out.”

On his working relationship with Paul, Joe comments: “As always Paul was incredible. He took my rushes, of which there were an obscene amount, and not only made them coherent but crafted something both funny and sad and ultimately enormously entertaining. The film would've been a disaster without him."

Awful Days premiered last week, live from Brooklyn and was also streamed on Boiler Room’s site.
