Part of a portfolio of three 20 second films which complement the main 60 second “Go Go Power” commercial, ‘Optician’ threw up a whole lot of compositing challenges. Of the 20 second final, Filament had 17 seconds of bluescreen compositing, 3D modelling, texturing and lighting spread over 3 shots.
“‘Optician’ really stretched our bluescreen compositing skills,” explains Hani AlYousif, compositor and founder of Filament Post, “the frizzy hair blowing in the wind was particularly challenging but we took it to task, even adding wraparound lighting. The overlay animations underwent several iterations until the motion graphics were just right. The whole job was so vfx intensive it happily filled our 3D render farm, but we managed to turn it around in just 5 days.”
Filament completed the 60 second, several cutdowns and the three extra 20 second films with a total of 78 VFX shots in 19 days with a team of 11 artists, a task which director Olly Williams, Another Film Company, admitted to being a “Herculean feat of getting the jobs done on time and in magnificent style.” He expressed his sincerest “gratitude and total respect to the A-team of London’s finest operators and artists” and looks forward to further projects together.
