To make Walmart’s Pickup Service world famous, we went…out of this world.
We brought the most famous visitors from the cosmos together for the first time, in an epic cross-over film to highlight just how convenient Walmart Pickup is. We did it on the galaxy’s biggest stage: Super Bowl LIV. Using the magic of post-production we brought everyone's famous characters together. This included recreating Mars Attacks from scratch, and even de-aging Alex Winter to his most excellent 1989 self.
We teased the campaign by infiltrating sub-reddits with “UFO sightings” and radio with alien transmissions. With the Super Bowl launch, we created hundreds of pieces of digital and social targeted content, a mural in Miami’s Wynwood Walls, and created in-game social conversations with other major brands and our famous visitors.
Walmart’s Famous Visitors was an instant hit with positive results before the game was over. App installs rose 96% in game. It garnered over 140 million impressions in game and press coverage increased by 1,825%. On YouTube, the spot reached 21 million views.
