“Bigger Than Small” is a duo of punchy and playful spots for Smart Car, creative execution of which heavily relied on strong VFX solutions. The purpose of each spot was to prove that fortwo and fourfour models of Smart Car only look small - both models perform series of extraordinary skills, like dancing or flying above the European capitals, and even gliding through outer space.

The seamless blending of VFX, CGI, graphic designs and real footage was a heavy post-production task. The 3D team at Glassworks Amsterdam built a massive hot-air-balloon and recreated cities and undergrounds in CG via photogrammetry, while the 2D department performed absolutely cosmic compositing and created its own retro arcade game using a combination of 3D and motion graphics. Visual Effects played an integral part in the making of the spots, proving that indeed, Smart Car is actually “bigger than small”.
